Intercord TV Games TVS-5

Intercord TV Games TVS-5

TV Games TVS-5 by Intercord is one of many different game consoles on the market that was made with the General Instruments AY-3-8500 chip. The device itself came onto the market in Germany in 1978 and actually didn't offer anything new that other game consoles were already able to do.

The special thing about this case is that this console was released by the company Intercord, which actually had absolutely nothing to do with gaming or electronic devices. Intercord was a music label based in Stuttgart which described itself as one of the most creative centers of the international music market. The Intercord logo corresponded exactly to the logo that was attached to the devices. It is interesting that nowhere in the company's history was it reported that Intercord itself sold such game consoles.

The console itself is quite simple and, as already mentioned, with four games it is not really an innovation at the time. When using the AY-3-8500 chip, the games themselves did not yet have the option of automatically displaying the scores. Two sliders mounted horizontally on the device were used for this, with which the players moved these sliders one point forward for each point made.

The sounds did not come from the TV but were played back by the device. The graphics were very simple and the games were presented in black and white. You still had the option on the device to choose how fast the ball was traveling and at what angle it bounced off.

Nice To Know

The manufacturing company Intercord was a music label and had nothing to do with gaming or electronic devices.

The points made could not be displayed automatically. The players had to set these themselves on two horizontal sliders as a reminder.
